Teacher Training

Trained Teachers Teach Better.

The Education Office of the Diocese of Hinche organized an innovative three-year teacher training program and secured funding from Haitian Education Fund of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond.

The Education Office conducted competitive examinations among the Diocese's primary school teachers.  Sixty teachers qualified for the program.

The program enabled teachers to complete their education and prepare for the state teacher examination. Few teachers in the Diocese have completed enough of their education to take the national teacher examination.

Seven weeks of training were provided in each year of the three-year training period.  The instructors were selected  from the nearby Papaye Normal School (Ecole Normal de Papaye) conducted by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

The program cost for facilities, instructors, supplies, and room and board for 60 students for one week totaled about $5,000.  The Haitian Education Fund funded this cost so that the teacher-participants pay nothing.

Fifty-one teachers completed the three year program in the summer of 2007.
